The Richard Gray Heart Chest was inspired by the beautiful wooden boxes, known as wedding or ‘hope’ chests, in which 19th century brides-to-be saved their needlepoint and crocheted linens. With hand-cut, dovetailed corners and book-matched sides, quietly visible are also two hand-carved, heart-shaped dovetails (‘love tails’) and scrolled feet that, if viewed closely, suggest a subtle heart-shape.

The finished chest can hold hopes and dreams or cherished memories; new baby linens or old photo albums. Each chest is handcrafted to order, made to size from specially selected woods, with period hardware, and signed.

A handmade cradle by Richard Gray is meticulously designed and crafted with both parent (grandparent!) and baby in mind. Hand pegs to hold it steady, slats narrow enough to be safe, the slight bow to the shape to suggest a gently rocking boat.

Engraved brass plates, with names and dates, can be affixed to any of these special gifts, ensuring their legacy.
