Handcrafted Furniture
Every piece of furniture by Richard Gray is built with integrity from start to finish. He works with each client to determine the style, select the wood and identify the desired finish. Each plank is specifically chosen for its color, natural grain, unique characteristics and natural defects. Additional design elements, such as hand painted or glass tiles, are painstakingly selected to complete the desired effect.
Each piece is cut, hand-planed, assembled and thoroughly sanded to a smooth, fine surface, and then either stained or painted. Oils, stains and waxes are applied in multiple layers, each one hand-rubbed directly into the wood, allowing it to penetrate deeply, enhancing the color and enriching its natural grain.
The same care and attention to detail is applied to every project, whether a Sheraton- style writing desk of solid mahogany with delicate turned legs, a vintage chestnut table designed for a newly renovated Connecticut River home, or a mahogany framed mirror with beveled glass that warmly welcomes guests to an 19th century apartment.
The final product is a one-of-a-kind piece to be treasured for generations to come.
